August has been declared as the month of food. The Ministry of Agriculture will embark on different activities to showcase their products and to motivate the nation to do farming on a serious level. There will be field days, flee markets days and other activities all throughout the country.

This year the districts of north have planted many acres, and are expecting a good harvest. This is encouraging to the farmers.

King in Austria Upon invitation by the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Dr. Heinz Fischer, His Majesty paid a two  day official visit to the Republic of Austria on 24 – 25th April, 2013. The main purpose of this visit was to entrench socio – economic and cultural relations between the two States. During the visit, His Majesty met with the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, the President of Parliament of Austria, Director of the National Library in Austria, the President of Austrian Chamber of Commerce, and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). His Majesty also met the Chief Executive Officer of the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).

One of the highlights of His Majesty’s visit to Austria was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which outlines bilateral cooperation framework between the two States.

While in Austria, His Majesty officially opened the Lesotho Business Forum, under the theme Unlocking the Potential for Investment in the Kingdom in the Sky. In His remarks at the official opening of the Business Forum, His Majesty presented an overview of Lesotho as an investor friendly country; highlighting its improved performance in the World Bank’s Doing Business Indicators. This survey, seen by many as a benchmark for rating the world’s best business environments; tracked Lesotho as one of the top performers in 2012. He urged Austrian business community to establish and strengthen business relation with the Lesotho business community.

The Business Forum brought together over 75 Austrian entrepreneurs.

There is a promising trend of increasing yield in the northern districts of the country. For the past 5 years there is trend which shows that as time passes the farmers are trying to adopt the recommended technologies which help them to get a better yield. There are various projects which work hand in hand with farmers and that results in good produce.
